Modern, high-torque diesel units with four or six cylinders are available for your new Audi A4. The range at model launch extends from 105 kW (143PS) to 176 kW (240PS). The most powerful diesel engine for the A4, the 3.0 TDI, has an impressive torque rating of 500 Nm from 1,500 to 3,000 rpm, and reaches 62 mph from a standstill in just 6.1 seconds; its top speed is 155 mph (governed).

The petrol engines in the A4 are equipped with FSI® or TFSI®, technologies that have been tried and tested in motorsport. In FSI® engines, fuel is injected into the combustion chamber in precisely measured quantities. This provides for efficient combustion and improved petrol utilisation. TFSI® combines FSI® with a turbocharger to deliver even more power. Petrol models are available as both four- and six-cylinder versions. The range at model launch extends from 118 kW (160PS) to 195 kW (265PS).

A special valve timing system, the Audi valvelift system, reduces internal friction in the 3.2 FSI engine, thus reducing fuel consumption – but not power! As a result, the most powerful model, the A4 3.2 FSI, with its torque rating of 330 Nm, accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 6.2 seconds.
