Five valves per cylinder

A decisive factor in designing an efficient engine is the amount of fuel that can be burned efficiently in the cylinders. This is also a function of the amount of air that can enter the cylinders under these conditions. Five-valve technology offers decisive advantages here: with five valves per cylinder, engines can be “ventilated” better and faster. The result is an increase in torque and power. In addition consumption and emissions are also positively affected.

Audi was the first automobile manufacturer to build engines with five valves per cylinders on a large scale. The manufacturing process calls for skill and experience in cylinder head casting techniques and a very compact design of the valve actuators.
