Euro NCAP (The European New Car Assessment Programme) is regarded today as one of the most important benchmarks for passive safety. Its offset crash test is even more stringent than the EU’s legal requirement that has been in force since October 1998. Impact speed was increased from 56 km/h (legal requirement) to 64 km/h (Euro NCAP), which is equivalent to an increase of more than 30% in impact energy. Among the organisers of the Euro NCAP are the British and Swedish transport authorities, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), the German ADAC (automobile club) as well as other European automobile clubs.
