Light-emitting diodes (LED) have a whole series of technical advantages over conventional bulbs. The most important of these are the speed at which they are activated and their long service life. If a driver sees the brake lights of the car ahead sooner, this can help to reduce his or her stopping distance by around 5.5 metres at a speed of 100 km/h (in the appropriate conditions). The light-emitting diodes last an entire vehicle life, consume up to 50 percent less energy and take up less space. Selected Audi models use light-emitting diodes for all main rear light functions (tail lights, brake lights, turn indicators), in the side turn indicators and
daytime driving lights.
