The variator consists of two adjustable V-pulleys, between which the link-plate chain runs.
The engine speed is continuously geared down or geared up within this assembly by moving the conical surfaces and transferred to the axle drive and the wheels.
The adjustment of the conical surfaces takes place hydraulically and by means of differing control characteristics. A hydraulic torque sensor at the same time ensures that the link-plate chain is always correctly tensioned and that the torque is transferred without slipping.
