Vehicle access and locking
With Advanced Key, the central locking system can be activated or deactivated at any door and from the boot, by means of a proximity sensor and locking button integrated into each door handle. To unlock the door, the authorised key must be no more than 1.5 metres from the door and the door handle pressed. The MMI can be used to pre-programme whether this unlocks the complete security system or that door only.
When leaving the vehicle you just tap a locking button on the door handle. If an authorised key is detected at the same time within range of the door, the central locking activates and secures the entire vehicle.
Start authorisation
You can also start the car using key recognition. On verification, the steering and ignition are released; the authorised key must be inside the car. You then press the start button on the centre console above the MMI terminal.
Normal operation is possible too
Conventional radio remote control, central locking and vehicle starting using the ignition lock is still possible when the Advanced Key feature is fitted. The vehicle key retains the functions of the standard mechanical key (radio remote control with folding key bit, including immobiliser and access authorisation control). The underside of the driver's door handle still features a conventional door lock.
The start/stop button can be used to switch the ignition and engine on and off. To start/stop the engine conventionally, an electronic ignition lock is fitted in conjunction with the Avanced Key feature.
