Established youngsters“After ample consideration we elected to follow a slightly different driver concept than some of our competitors – which gives priority to young drivers”, explains Dr. Ullrich. “I’m convinced that all three are a boost to our team and fit perfectly with Audi.”
In Martin Tomczyk (25), Mattias Ekström (28) and Timo Scheider (28) three drivers are contracted who are also under 30-years of age, but who are already established within the Audi squad. Vanina Ickx (32) contests her second season with Audi. Experience is also a commodityHowever, Dr Ullrich also banks on experience for the 2007 season: Frank Biela (42) is an Audi factory driver since 1991, Emanuele Pirro (45) since 1994. Allan McNish (37), Christian Abt (39), Le Mans record winner Tom Kristensen (39), Marco Werner (40) and Dindo Capello (42) have also all won innumerable important races and championship titles for Audi, are still blindingly quick and, furthermore, popular ambassadors for the Audi brand. “I believe that we have an excellent and potent mix of experience and young, hungry drivers”, Dr Ullrich is convinced. | |
