Technician, fighter, playboy

Christian Abt has been an Audi factory driver for a decade. However, the Allgäu racer has always had a soft spot for the brand with four-rings: The motor vehicle master craftsman completed his training in the AUDI AG Technical Development (TE) department. Father Johann demanded that his youngest son learn a “proper” trade before treading the path to become a racing driver.

In this way, Christian Abt has always had both options open: On the one hand a skilled technician and clever businessman who, together with brother Hans-Jürgen, have turned the Abt Sportsline company into the leading tuner of vehicles from the Volkswagen concern. On the other hand, a successful professional racing driver who won the German Touring Car Championship in 1999 at the wheel of an Audi A4 quattro run by his own team. The step into DTM followed in 2000 – and since then has divided the hearts and minds of fans like no other. Christian Abt is somebody who never gives up, who fights to the bitter end, lets his emotions flow and doesn’t mince his words. Polarising character traits.

Christian Abt, who started his career in Motocross and is father of an almost adult daughter, is also true to himself in his private life. He considers light ale as staple food. He enjoys going out with friends and painting the town red if no races are imminent. After all, you only live once. That’s why he treated himself to a boat, at anchor in Mallorca. However, Christian Abt feels most comfortable where he grew up: In the Allgäu.
