Audi A6 wins Best Executive Car Award in 2006 Fleet World Honours.

Audi A6 has won the award for Best Executive Car in the 2006 Fleet World Honours. The trophy was presented at a special ceremony held at the Royal Automobile Club, Pall Mall on Thursday 18th May.

The Fleet World Honours are presented annually to those motor manufacturers and service companies who have, in the opinion of the judges, achieved the highest possible level of excellence in their sector. The judging panel is chaired by industry professional, George Emmerson, who has managed fleets at IBM, NHBC and Black Horse Agencies. Members of the judging panel include Ken Rogers, John Kendall and Ross Durkin from Fleet World’s editorial team, Alan Cole of Glass’s Guide and fleet manager Jackie Pomfrett. Residual value, maintenance cost and reliability data is also provided by ALD Automotive, Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions and ING Car Lease.

Commenting on the award, Chairman of Judges George Emmerson said: ‘Second year running for the Audi A6 and from a fleet manager’s perspective a well deserved accolade. In fleet terms, an important factor for staff coming through the ranks is to have a vehicle in the “executive” sector to which they can aspire to and Audi A6 fits into this category perfectly. It is also important that executive sector vehicles demonstrate reasonable operating costs and again Audi A6 should meet any fleet manager’s requirements in such areas.’

Fleet World editor Ken Rogers commented: ‘Beautifully put together, well engineered and conservatively styled, there is no doubt that Audi’s A6 is a class act. An excellent driver’s car, the A6 offers an understated alternative to the other contenders in this market segment that is dominated by German products. There is an excellent range of engines – including two silky-smooth TDI diesels. The Avant versions are very appealing propositions for drivers who need extra practicality as well as style.’

Alan Cole of Glass’s Guide added: ‘Although 3-year residual values for A6 are, currently, in third place behind Lexus IS and 5 Series BMW, A6 offers the same prestige and luxury at a more affordable price. A6 is often considered as the thinking driver’s choice over the BMW and some driver’s still consider the Lexus as not representative enough of their position.
