Protection for the feet

Depending on the nature and severity of a collision, the lower extremities may be exposed to a severe risk of injury. To reduce this risk, Audi uses appropriate padding and specially designed deformation elements in the pedal cluster, under the carpet and footrest. For example, the front bulkhead deformation that occurs in the Euro NCAP offset crash test permits the pedal cluster to move freely after a predetermined level of force has been reached. The intrusion thus disconnects the pedals, they remain free to move and substantially resistance-free. This reduces the risk of injury to the feet and lower legs. Furthermore, the feet are protected from hard impact with the bulkhead by energy absorbing padding in the carpeting.
