Every Audi R8 has over a million kilometres on the clock.
Before you even drive it.
Like all automotive manufacturers, Audi employs specialists to develop test plans for new vehicles. But the test regime was the hardest we’ve ever devised.
For the test track, only the fearsome Nürburgring would do. But not just a few rapid laps; Audi test drivers drove the R8 hard for over 10,000km, noting and correcting every undesirable variance, no matter how small.
Then the R8 was taken to the viciously cold Scandinavian tundra to check the vehicle’s effectiveness at temperatures of -30°C. Then to the blistering Nevada desert to observe and refine performance in extreme heat. 56.7°C to be precise.
How high would the car operate? Audi engineers took the R8 for a lengthy spin at nearly 5,000ft above sea level to find out. And, just for good measure, it was driven at 282ft below sea level as well.
During testing, the Audi R8 clocked up over 1.5 million kilometres. Reliability and performance – perfected.
