A SPORTING FUTURE

Audi Sport CEO Stephan Winkelmann heralds a new era for Audi's elite high-performance division, formerly known as quattro GmbH

WRITER Angus Frazer

'We are about to start a new era, as the company formerly known as quattro GmbH becomes Audi Sport GmbH. It is a new name for a new company. And it could not be a more appropriate one because motorsport is part of our DNA – from the legendary Silver Arrows Grand Prix cars of the 1930s, through to the rally quattros of the 1980s and the 13 wins in the Le Mans 24 Hours race.

'Audi Sport is built upon four pillars. These include our high-performance R8 and RS models, such as the new TT RS, plus our customer racing activities, to which we have added the new RS 3 LMS. Then we have Audi exclusive, which enables customers to personalise their cars, and finally the Audi collection, which offers a bespoke range of premium merchandise.

'Only the most sporty and prestigious products become Audi Sport models. We want to build our story and celebrate our heritage.

Audi Sport's track-proven R8 LMS customer racing car is a multiple title winner, and will be joined on circuits around the world during 2017 by the all-new RS 3 LMS.

From in-car espresso machines and luggage sets, to ride-on cars for junior drivers, elegant watches and more, explore a world of accessories with the Audi collection.

The Audi exclusive programme enables you to personalise your new car with an almost unlimited number of customisation combinations of paint, leather and trim finishes.

Only the most powerful, most driver-focused models are awarded Audi's legendary R8 and RS badges. And these elite models are all developed and built by Audi Sport.

'We do this by developing cars that express the motorsport DNA from all those great victories, but with a clear focus on the future.

'We are living in exciting times where the entire car industry is undergoing a shift towards a more sustainable future, which is tremendous. We at Audi Sport must rise to that challenge as we seek to define what performance will mean in the future. True success requires not just evolution, it also requires revolution.

'I am convinced that alternative drive technologies will find their place in the world of high performance as long as they offer our customers exactly what they expect from an Audi Sport model: the perfect combination of unsurpassed performance and maximum everyday practicality.'
