Plug-in hybrid and electric charging times

Charging times

Everything you need to know about charging times for your e-tron 55.
Some of these questions will also apply to other plug-in hybrid and fully electric models.

What are the e-tron 55 charging times?

Household 3 pin socket (AC)
Empty to full charge (0-100%)¹
1.4kW (6amps) approx. 84 hours
2.3kW (10amps) approx. 47 hours

Suitability for domestic socket charging depends on the condition of your home wiring. If the domestic socket is on the same circuit as other appliances, charging time will increase and the additional amperage drawn may be enough to trip a breaker switch. Contact an electrician before plugging into a domestic socket for the first time.

Industrial socket (AC)
Empty to full charge (0-100%)¹
3.7 kW Single Phase CEE16 blue (16amps) approx. 28 hours
7.4 kW Single Phase CEE32 blue (32amps) approx. 13 hours 30 min
11kW 3-Phase CEE16 red (16amps) approx. 9 hours
22 kW 3-Phase CEE32 red (32amps) approx. 9 hours²

Industrial sockets are not as common in the UK as in other European countries. In the UK, these tend to be found at campsites and workshops, rather than in homes.

Home Wall Box Type 2 socket (AC)
Empty to full charge (0-100%)¹
7.4 kW Single Phase (32amps) approx. 13 hours 30 min
7kW Pod Point wall box Single Phase (30amps) approx. 14 hours ³
22kW Pod Point wall box 3-Phase (32amps) approx. 9 hours² ³

Most UK homes have single-phase power, which means 7.4kW is the maximum power that can be supplied to a home wall box. Some larger homes, may have 3-phase power, which means the maximum power output available is 22.1kW. This allows a 22 kW home wall box to be installed, which reduces the charging time. Our recommended home wall box supplier is Pod Point. They offer both 7kW and 22kW wall boxes. Further details can be found on Pod Point.

Public Charging Stations (AC)
Slow Public Charging Stations (AC):
Empty to full charge (0-100%)¹
3.7kW Single Phase (16amps) approx. 28 hours
Fast Public Charging Stations (AC):

Empty to full charge (0-100%)¹
7kW Single Phase (32amps) approx. 14 hours
11kW 3-Phase (16amps) approx. 9 hours
22kW 3-Phase (32amps) approx. 9 hours¹
Rapid & Ultra Rapid Charging Stations (DC)

5% to full charge (5-80%)¹
Rapid 50kW approx. 1 hour 42 minutes (80% 1 hour 20 minutes)
Ultra Rapid⁴ 150kW approx. 50 minutes (80% 30 minutes)
Further details on public charging stations can be found on Zap Map.

1
Charging times will depend on various factors, including temperature, state of the battery, state of and capabilities of the charging unit and power supply. Actual charging time will vary depending on the level of charge in the battery, as well as environmental conditions. Charging times will also be affected by the charging curve for example once charging passes 80%, charging will slow to protect the battery’s longevity.
2
Audi e-tron 55 maximum AC charging capability is 11kW.
3
Based on Pod Point estimates.
4
Limited number of Ultra Rapid charging points currently available in the UK, with numbers planned to increase initially on UK motorways.
