Local and government incentives

    Road tax VED savings

    Fully electric cars are subject to the lowest first year rate of VED of £10, and then £195 for every year thereafter. Whilst zero-emission cars will now be subject to road tax, the rates remain significantly lower in comparison to higher-emission cars, with an attractive reduced rate for the first year. If you register an electric car listed for £40,000 or higher after 1 April, you will have to pay the Expensive Car Supplement. This additional tax will be £410 per year for five years, from the second year onwards.

    Up to £350 per charging station

    Businesses, charities and public authorities can claim a grant of up to £350 per charging socket towards the cost of installing up to 40 new electric vehicle chargers at their premises.

    100% discount London Congestion Charge

    In London fully electric vehicles qualify for the 100% cleaner vehicle discount, which means exemption from the congestion charge.

    London Ultra Low Emission Zone for free

    The low or zero emissions from plug-in and fully electric vehicles will mean lower charges from the Clean Air Zones being implemented across the UK and the Ultra-Low Emission Zone in London.

    Some local authorities offer incentives for electric vehicles, including reduced-cost Residents’ Parking Permits and Green Vehicle Permits.
