Audi is the 2007 DTM Champion

Mattias Ekström clinched the 2007 DTM title for Audi: After 2004, the Swede won the most popular international touring car racing series for the second time. For AUDI AG, after 1990, 1991, 2002 and 2004, this is already the fifth DTM title. In addition, Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline secured a commanding title in the team classification.

Further developed A4 DTM

A new version of the A4 DTM bearing the project name “R13” was created over the winter at Audi Sport. The survival-cell from last year’s “R12 plus” was retained, whereas the aerodynamics, suspension and also the engine were further developed.

The four latest generation Audi A4 DTM cars were run by Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline. Record Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen from Denmark and the Swede Mattias Ekström, the 2004 DTM Champion, spearhead the Bavarian team’s championship assault. German Martin Tomczyk, who celebrated his first DTM victory last season and the “newly promoted” Timo Scheider completed the Abt squad.

Audi Sport Teams Phoenix and Rosberg each entered a pair of year-old cars. The customer team Futurecom TME competed with two A4 from the 2005 season. With the two Germans Lucas Luhr and Mike Rockenfeller and Frenchman Alexandre Prémat, Audi has signed three new factory drivers and rejuvenated its driving squad in the progress. Luhr and Rockenfeller line-up for Audi Sport Team Rosberg, while Prémat is new team mate to experienced DTM veteran Christian Abt at Audi Sport Team Phoenix. Factory driver Vanina Ickx tackled her second DTM season again for the Futurecom TME customer team. The second cockpit was filled by the Bavarian team.

2007 is a transitional year

The 2007 DTM was a transitional year for Audi: The current A4 DTM competed for the last time before series-production of the new road going model began, and before the race car is replaced by the new A4 in 2008. Although the opponent appeard this year with a new model, the team under Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich brought back the DTM title to Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm in 2007.
